The Greenville Area Interfaith Hospitality Network (GAIHN)

Assists local congregations to share hospitality (in the form of emergency shelter, meals, and short-term housing) with homeless families that include children, and to help those families achieve self-sufficiency and self-fulfillment.

Lee Road UMC is one of twenty-four dynamic Greenville-area congregations  using their classrooms and other facilities to offer homeless families safe lodging, nourishing meals, and genuine hospitality—right down to the mint on the pillow! Each congregation hosts the guest families for a week at a time, about four (4) times a year on a rotating schedule, and/or provides transitional housing for families. Eighteen other congregations provide volunteer services & support resources.

Pedaling for Affordable Housing.  Lee Road hosted a group of young adults as part of the national Bike and Build organization.
They come from Charleston, South Carolina where they participate in a build program.   They then travel throughout the state, arriving in Taylors.  They work two days  here in the area and then leave for the next town. When they end, the group will have pedaled for about 4,233 miles, had several building days, and finish California. Bike and Build introduces young adults to the affordable housing cause, and engages them in a unique and interesting way. By funding building projects involving students and young adults, Bike and Build creates service opportunities among young adults.

Lee Road “Geocache” Site!

“Geocache” on the Lee Road Church grounds.  This is another opportunity to get the church name out into the community.

“Geocaching” is an outdoor recreational activity in which participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) or smart phone to seek containers called "geocaches" or "caches.”  A typical “cache” is a small, waterproof container containing a logbook (with a pen or pencil). The “geocacher” enters the date they found it, and sign it with their established code name. After signing the log, the cache is placed back exactly where the person found it.   www.geocaching.com
