I grew up in North Carolina and graduated from NC State with a BA in Political Science. After college, I managed a bank in Atlanta for nearly three years. In 1991, I graduated from the University of West Florida with an education degree. In May of that year, God called me into ministry. I entered Columbia Theological Seminary. Now after 23 years of ministry and obtaining my Doctorate in Evangelism an dMission, I am delighted to serve Lee Road United Methodist Church. I enjoy golf, watching numerous sports, and being with my lovely and Co-Pastor Beth.

What a privilege to be here as a pastor of Lee Road UMC!  I grew up in a Presbyterian Church near Fayetteville, North Carolina.  After graduating from Meredith College in Raleigh, I entered Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia.  I have served PC(USA) churches in Florence, South Carolina; Jacksonville, North Carolina; Nederland, Texas and Silsbee, Texas.  It is a true joy to be back in the Carolinas serving in the United Methodist Church!  Clay and I have been married since 1988 and have four children.  Our son, Daniel, lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Our daughter Hannah attends Texas State University, our daughter, Abby, attends Lamar State College in Orange, Texas, and our youngest daughter Lydia is in seventh grade.

I enjoy spending time with our family, baking (especially with chocolate), reading and exploring the Upstate of South Carolina!

I was born and primarily raised in Spartanburg County.   However, my Dad’s job did require us to move quite a bit and so my sisters & I got to experience many different ways of life within the US.  I married my high school sweetheart and we have been together over 45 years.   We have 2 grown sons and 6 wonderful grandchildren ranging in age from 26 to 6.

I have always tried to remember two quotes.  One is a prayer and the other a poem and apply them to my life every day.  The Serenity prayer:  God to grant me Serenity to accept what I cannot change; Courage to change the things I can; and Wisdom to know the difference.  The other is a poem by an unknown author; Footprints – The last line stating the reason only one set of footprints  were seen in the sand during the times of hardship and struggles was because those were the times that He carried me.

My husband Sandy, son Rob and I joined Lee Road UMC in early 1997.  Sandy and I joined the chancel choir and Navigators Sunday School Class.  I have served as Chair of Missions, Chair of SPRC, Chair of Administrative Board and President of United Methodist Women, and am currently Chair of Evangelism.

I have served as Director of Member Ministries for the past 7 years.  In this capacity, I try to keep information on visitors and new members.  I administer the listing for Bread Ministry and Attendance/First Time Visitor Ministry.  Our volunteers not only keep records of church attendance, but make visits to first time visitors, with a packet of information and a delicious loaf of bread, to say “Welcome and Come Again”.

In my leisure time Sandy and I serve as a Foster Family for DRNA (Dachshund Rescue of North America) taking care of rescued doxies and helping place them in forever homes.  I also enjoy reading and gardening.  I am an office volunteer and enjoy helping in any way this church I love.  Lee Road is truly a “Servant Church” always looking for ways to serve and encourage others and it is my privilege to be a small part of its ministry.
